Creating your website is one of the most exciting yet time-consuming parts when it comes to getting started online. It’s like watching your baby grow and bloom into something beautiful. Even better, this time, you get to decide how your baby looks and what it says to the world.
I started out by setting up my hosting account and I chose Bluehost.
Quick heads-up: If you haven’t signed up for hosting yet, you can click here to get a discounted price with Bluehost. You’ll also get a free domain for your first year, which is great because usually, you’d have to buy that separately.
Alright, let’s get into it!
Step 1: Go to Bluehost’s Website
Head over to Bluehost (use this link to get the discount!). Once you’re there, hit the “Get Started Now” button.

Step 2: Choose Your Hosting Plan
You’ll see a few options: Basic, Choice Plus, and Pro. If you’re just starting out, the Basic plan is totally enough. You can always upgrade later.
I personally went with Choice Plus. It seemed relevant to me at the time.

Step 3: Pick Your Free Domain
This is where you get to choose the name of your website (aka your domain). Bluehost lets you grab one for free in your first year, a pretty sweet deal.
You’ll start by searching for your desired domain. If it’s available, great! If not, a small tweak might be all you need to find something that works.
Not sure what to pick? Aim for something simple, easy to remember, and relevant to your brand or idea. (You can check out my blog post on choosing the perfect domain name here if you need some inspo!)

Step 4: Domain Privacy and Protection
Once you’ve chosen your domain name, Bluehost takes you straight to the cart to finalize your purchase.
At this point, something important to note is that if you’re on the Basic plan, you’ll need to purchase domain privacy and protection separately.
While it might seem like an extra step, this feature is equally important.
Domain privacy helps protect your personal information (like your name, address, and phone number) from being publicly available in the domain registration database. Anyone can easily find your details with a simple online search if you don’t have it enabled.
Domain protection adds an extra layer of security, ensuring that your domain can’t be transferred or modified without your approval. This is crucial for keeping your website safe and secure as you build your online presence.
Although it’s an added cost, it’s worth considering if you want to safeguard your privacy and protect your website in the long run.
However, the Choice Plus Plan already includes this in the total amount.
Tip: Bluehost throws in extra package offers here (like the above-mentioned domain privacy or site backup and others). If you’re on a budget, feel free to uncheck the ones you don’t need right now.
Step 5: Fill in Your Details
Once this is settled, you’ll be asked to create your account and enter your details, just the usual stuff like your name, email, and payment info.
Once you’re done setting up, you’ll create a password for your Bluehost account. Then log in, and voilà! You’re in.
Step 6: Install WordPress (it’s just one click!)
Bluehost makes this part super easy. They have a 1-click WordPress install, and they’ll guide you through it. WordPress is what you’ll use to actually design and manage your website.
Follow the prompts, and within a few minutes, your site will be live. Time to celebrate.
Step 7: Start Customizing Your Site
Now the fun begins, picking your theme, customizing pages, adding your logo, writing your first post, and all that good stuff. Take your time with it and enjoy the process. This is where your site starts to reflect you.

Creating your website doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Bluehost offers a beginner-friendly setup, and with the free domain plus discounted hosting, you get an awesome deal to kickstart your website.
